Statement: Hare Scramble
Hare scrambles are off-road motorcycle and quad (four-wheeler) endurance races through woods, fields and streams. Racers' friends and families spread out over miles to serve as pit crews to refuel riders. Children begin racing as early as age four. In these photographs participants become figures in a landscape temporarily altered by their activity. Hare scrambles, and the people who participate in them, reveal the resilience, grace and humor of rural America.
